Saudi Arabia condemns blasphemous sketches, 'all acts of terrorism' committed against cartoonists in Paris - A statement issued by the Saudi interior ministry condemned all religious and political blasphemy as "desecration of Islam." The minister said this was a direct assault on religion. I spoke to Al Arabiya English editor Sanaa Saadieh about how far we have come from our own days when it was acceptable for someone like Salman Rushdie or his fellow Saudis online harassment writers to lash out at each other's characters (which they did quite frequently), but not very much else; also see her coverage of Muhammad cartoons: What They Showed You & How It Changed Your Mind About His Death.
I'd be remiss if there weren't some discussion here with your comments so you can read my response : From an Arabic point-of view, calling yourself one of the leaders is pretty rare nowadays [and] being called that would make more sense...you're probably talking about yourselves.... But even then, just asking around feels creepy? You should use such vague words rather than describing who YOU are actually speaking to! So what does anything good emerge because of something people say instead? To paraphrase Michael Jackson, God bless everyone!!! For those worried enough to speak up without expecting them -- keep watching me :)
